A Photo A Day - 12

Something beginning B...
...This is my lovely mummy Barbara!

Of course she is also the wonderful mummy of @bluegiraffe19!

B could also be for brooch, like the brooches that I make.

Or B could be for bargain! Like this Monsoon tea pot by Denby, half price at Habitat.

So much choice, sorry!

Red Shoes

I have been feeling a little down in the dumps at work and all for the usual reasons; lack of support, not being managed properly and work going unnoticed!

So today I have worn red heals to work (one of three pairs)! I feel taller, more confident and teamed with my red glasses, they look great!

Red makes you feel powerful and helps you to get noticed! Just what I need right now.

What colour makes you feel good?

P.S. thanks to my sister @bluegiraffe19 for taking these lovely pictures!

The Big Scary Gym!

So I am not a gym goer, I always find a reason not to go; "I'm too tired", "I have to see so and so tonight!".

I have been a member of two gyms and I have always felt self conscious about going.

The first gym I joined was at University and I kept seeing all the skinny people on my course working out and there was me, all sweaty and red.

Then when I moved home I joined the gym there, but I kept seeing people I went to school with who I never wanted to see again!

A friend and I used to go running as a training exercise for the race for life (5k, 3m). Before I started training for this I never thought I couldn't run, but it turned out that I could!

Then I had an operation in February 2010 which really put me out of action.

My partner and I have just moved to a new area and we have a 5 day free pass to LA Fitness, although I wasn't impressed with the facilities it was nice to be active again. I managed a sustained 8 minute run and then went for a swim. Lovely :) And of course there is the added benefit that I don't know anyone!

A Photo A Day - 5

Sorry it is so late at night but I knew what I wanted to take a picture of and I had to wait until tonight.

I am starting to make a Hippo for my friends baby. My reasons for this picture are:

1) He is amazingly cute! Hopefully he will make this persons child very happy!

2) The book this pattern is from is called "Tiny Yarn Animals" by Tamie Snow

3) Secretly I already love him, and although I have only done three rounds I would love to keep him for myself!

Photo Challenge Rules - updated*

(Taken from Saturdays Child Blog)

Okay i thought i'd spice things up a little and have a few rules to this post a-photo-a-day challenge.  Its not meant to be serious so if you dont want to follow them, thats fine.

If you do want to play along then these are what i've come up with so far.  Ill cut them into small chunks so we feel we are achieving something.

All photos must be taken on the day itself, if your camera has a date facility then you could switch it on.  You dont have to write anything to go with the image but some of the rules do ask for that.

Days 1 - 7

Day 1 - free choice to begin with
Day 2 - a pet or if you dont have one a stuffed toy
Day 3 - anything edible
Day 4 - your favourite mug/cup
Day 5 - free choice but this time list 3 reasons why you have chosen it.
Day 6 - free choice but must be in landscape mode not portrait
Day 7 - draw a small picture and take a photo of it (don't worry if you can't draw, nor can I).

*****Update*****
Days 8 - 14

Day 8 - Must have a 'traingle' in it
Day 9 - anything 'yellow'
Day 10 - anything fluffy but not living
Day 11 - A cloud formation
Day 12 - Anything beginning with 'B'
Day 13 - 2 ingredients you will use in any meal today
Day 14 - The theme of 'time' interpret it any way you wish
Days 15 - 28

@litlemouselilly has come up with some great rules, i think you’ll agree with me that they are going to stretch us and be fun at the same time.

Ok some rule ideas that i came up with:

15.    Treasured childhood possession
16.    Macro shot (close up if no macro setting)
17.   Texture
18.   Looking up
19.   Looking down
20.   Try a different perspective (e.g get down on the floor)
21.   Weather

22.   Yourself (either an image of you however you want to do it or something that sums you up!)

23-29.  Pick a colour for a week

Brill new rules from Jan @cajamecreations. Cant wait to get started on these.

Your interpretation of the following...

Day 30. Water
Day 31. Insect
Day 32. What sums up home for you
Day 33. Favourite shoes
Day 34. Feathered friends
Day 35. Contents of handbag (no tidying up or adding pretty bits)
Day 36. Circles
Day 37. Obsession
Day 38. Stones/rocks/pebbles
Day 39. Black & White
Day 40. Fire
Day 41. Words
Day 42. Blue & White
Day 43. Autumnal mood
Day 44. Favourite drink
Day 45. Housework
Day 46. Altered images
Day 47. Call of the wild
Day 48. Red, white, blue
Day 49. Diamonds
Day 50. Socks

Great new rules from Kirstin at Tailwags & Treats

Day 51.  Take a photo that reflects your favourite band name
Day 52. A photo that describes your favourite song
Day 53. A photo that reflects your personality
Day 54. A photo that describes your favourite movie
Day 55. A photo of your five things (that you would take to a desert island)
Day 56. A photo of a photo from your childhood
Day 57. Can you guess what it is, a photo where the object isn't immediately recognisable
Day 58. A photo of your favourite smell

Woo Hoo, if you've made it this far, well done. Jump up and down and feel good about yourself and... oh okay enough of the cheesy phrases!

A Photo A Day - 1

I decided to take up the challenge featured on the blog Saturdays Child. Take a photo a day for 365 (if you can ;))

More Thriftiness

Since we have moved into our lovely little house we have seen the wonderful generosity of others.

My brother-in-law gave us these lovely bedside tables.

Not bad for a hand-me-down, eah?

The Vancouver Craft Scene

So when I arrived in Vancouver I never would of thought that is was a good place for crafts. Vancouver has a different district for everything, restaurants for yuppies, kitsch shops selling British products (for those with too much money, geek-chic glasses and a macbook pro), the streets where the bums hang out, china town and the areas that have gone tourist mad!

One of the many tourist areas is Granville Island. We took the warter taxi to get there and back, wich was lovely and for $5 return trip I would highly recomend it. They also do tours of the False Creek.

Little did I know that Granville Island would be a great place for crafts. Full of amazing fresh food market stalls, a wonderful bead shop and a place where I just couldn't resist buying yarn!

If your going to Vancouver, you like the cheesy tourist experience and love crafts this is the place for you. Also Barbara in Miawa Supply is great for a chat and has been crafting for years so if you need any tips she is the gal to ask!

Thriftiness

So in Vancouver charity shops are called thrift stores. (a much nicer name in my opinion). When I happened upon the Salvation Army thrift store I had to go in.

Walking around the isles, yes isles! I found myself falling in love with an incomplete tea set. It did occur to me that this was a silly thing to buy considering it has to make a long-hall flight home, but I fell in love.

Vancouver

As most of you know I work a day job. As well as blogging and making things I work as a PR executive for a technology company. This does involve travel and organising our attendance at tradeshows around the world.

A couple of moths ago I went to South Korea and I wrote a few blog posts about the places I went to and the things I saw, and you guys seemed to like it, so here we are again. (you can read previous posts here and here)

I am currently in Vancouver, Canada atending a trade show about games development.

So here are a few pictures from my latest trip!
